A record number of Coaches and Club Volunteers participated in our 2008 Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, March 11th at the Alki Community Center. The membership approved two revisions to the Constitution and Bylaws. The first of these revisions changed references from "Mini Coordinator" to "Coed U7 Coordinator" to reflect current usage. The second revision allows for the expansion of the number of commissioners elected to the Board of Directors (from 3 to 5) members. Board positions that were voted on and the persons elected were:
- VP Admin - Jamie Foulk
- VP Coaches - Howard Chilcott
- Treasurer - Clydene Evans-Wenzel
- Commissioners (5 positions) - Julie Irwin, Julie Bramhall, Risa Foster, Dave Nichols, Tim McMonigle
Please join us in thanking these volunteers for their service to our kids!

On behalf of the children of The Gambia, West Africa, GambiaHELP would like to extend a sincere thank you for your donation of used soccer jerseys and soccer balls. The attached photograph was taken of one of the boys teams in Dankunku, The Gambia this last February. They were so grateful for the jerseys, as they were about to set out for the provincial tournament. Having matching jerseys to wear was very exciting for them. And red ones at that. WSSC donated dozens of uniforms, which were sent to no less than ten different villages. Many of the balls were used for packing computers for the sea container voyage, being sent to assist a medical clinic/orphanage develop a computer lab and an internet cafe for income generation. The balls were distributed to as many as 15 villages once in country. The balls are especially cherished. They will use them far past when one would think the ball is even kickable. A few of the balls would not hold air, so a bit of the stiching was removed, the bladder repaired and once restiched, the balls were back in service. As the balls were presented to the school headmasters, we made an point of requesting that the girls have access. The girls have only recently been taken seriously as athletes. But now they have several age groups that compete nationally. The Gambia Boys U-17 team is regularly in the U-17 World Cup. In one of the last U-17 World Cups, the Gambia team knocked out the Brazil team. As in many countries around the world, football is a national pastime and passion. There is a field in every village, with goal posts made out of whatever is available. When the rains start, the dirt turns to grass. The picture you have is taken after they have played a game on the dirt field. Again, thank you for your generous contribution to the children of West Africa. Sincerely, Sandy Murray, volunteer GambiaHELP http://www.gambiahelp.org/index.html

New Referee Training Your young son and daughter decided last year to follow your advice and play soccer. The year started very well, but as it wore on, you determined that the referees should be doing a better job. Most of them were doing fine, but perhaps the thought crossed your mind that you could do a better job. And did you wonder how you might go about this for the coming season? For persons wishing to referee for the first time, we have some choices: >Read More Here For more information regarding referee clinics, visit www.wasrc.org and click on Instruction--Clinics.

New to soccer? Review rules of the game, including modified soccer (U7-U11).

Attitudes Are Contagious (Video) Mass Youth Soccer has developed and produced an outstanding video focusing on the issues of sideline behavior of adults, and specifically on how that behavior is affecting the retention of qualified referees. While many have talked about the issue of adult sideline behavior, Mass Youth is the only organization to turn the talk into a valuable tool that teams, towns, clubs and leagues can put into immediate use to help curb the unwanted noise along the sidelines. >Click Here to watch the video online.
No Pets Please Seattle Parks and Recreation does not permit pets at athletic fields.
